Did you remember to add your new born as a dependant

Mother holding a newborn baby with reminder to add the child as a dependant

Having a newborn baby is a wonderful time in one’s life. Although it may feel as if your world is turned upside down, it’s important to remember to add your newborn as a dependent.

This will give you peace of mind that your baby is covered for benefits such as getting immunised, consulting the doctor or getting medicine.

Do I have to add my newborn within a specific period of time?

Yes, you have to add your baby within 30 days from the date of your baby’s birth. If you don’t, waiting periods may apply, which means that your baby won’t be able to use certain benefits.

To add your newborn, we’ll need the following documents from you:

  • A Membership Application form.
  • Remember to insert the baby’s date of birth into the section where we ask what the join date should be.
  • Principal member’s ID document.
  • Your baby’s registered birth certificate.
  • If your baby’s surname differs from your surname, you must submit an Affidavit stating the reason.
  • You can temporarily submit a Hospital Confirmation or Notification document to us; but this document is only valid for 30 days.
  • As soon as your baby is registered with the Department of Home Affairs, you must submit a copy of your baby’s birth certificate to us. This must be done within 30 days after your baby’s birth!

Submit the documents to us via any of the following channels:

  • Employee Services Walk-in Centre at your workplace.
  • Employee Benefits (EB) office at your workplace.
  • Human Resources (HR) office at your workplace.
  • Client Liaison Officer/office in your area.
