Day in the life of Dr. Masego Tiro

1. Who is Dr Tiro, what qualifications do you have and what are your aspirations?

I am a qualified Medical Doctor with a Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Health. Currently I am pursuing an MBA in Healthcare. Working as general practitioner at Northam Zondereinde and being the PH Diabetic champion for all PH sites. I aspire to combine clinical practice with healthcare management to contribute to improving healthcare systems and to continue to contribute to our teams at PH for better patient care.

2. What time do you usually start your day and what’s a typical morning routine for you?

My day usually starts early, around 5am with a bit of exercise to keep healthy. I then drop off my kids at school before I go to work. I use the morning to prepare mentally for the day ahead by reviewing my schedule and ensure I am ready to give my patients the best care possible.

3. What are your main responsibilities as a General Practitioner?

As a General Practitioner, my responsibilities include diagnosing and treating medical conditions, managing chronic illnesses such as diabetes and hypertension, conducting routine check-ups, and giving preventative healthcare advice. I also work closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure holistic patient care.

4. How do you handle unexpected challenges or emergencies?

Being prepared is key, I have certifications in ACLS, BLS, PALS and ATLS so I have the knowledge to attend emergencies. I stay calm, prioritise patient safety, and act quickly based on clinical guidelines and experience. Teamwork is particularly important, communicating clearly with nurses and other staff ensures we respond effectively and efficiently to any situation.

5. What part of your day do you enjoy the most?

The most rewarding part of my day is interacting with patients and seeing positive outcomes from treatment. Whether it is helping someone feel better, managing a long-term condition successfully, or simply reassuring a patient, those moments make the work truly fulfilling. A simple “thank you Doctor” from a patient truly goes a long way.

Our Vision: To provide appropriate healthcare of high quality, cost-efficiently, which will obtain the approval of all stakeholders
