Be sunsmart this summer!

It’s natural to want to get out in the sun during warm summer days. That’s why it should also be second nature to protect your skin from the sun when you go outside. Ultraviolet (UV) rays are the number 1 cause of skin cancer.

Wear protective clothes!

Long pants, long-sleeved shirts, and hats will protect you from the scorching sun. Wide brimmed hats not only cover your face, but they also protect other easy-to-forget spots like your ears.

Make sunglasses your favourite accessory!

Sunglasses protect your eyes from UV rays that can cause eye problems, like cataracts. Look for the 100% block out stamp,

Limit your sun time!

Especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. because it’s when the sun’s rays are at their strongest. Plan your outdoor activities early in the morning or later in the afternoon.

Use sunscreen and use it right!

UV rays can harm your skin in as little as 15 minutes, even on a cloudy day! Protect your skin by putting sunscreen on every part of your body that’s exposed to the sun.

Use sunscreen that offers broad-spectrum protection. One coat won’t last all day. You need to reapply sunscreen every two hours!

Teach your children!

Two blistering burns before the age of 18, can increase the risk of getting skin cancer later in life. Make sure your children are coated all day!
