Our dedicated staff at Union Hospital Swartklip proactively organised a campaign in celebration of Pregnancy Awareness Week (PAW), highlighting our commitment to member education and health advocacy.

Their campaign was driven by several speakers, each addressing different topics related to pregnancy and maternal health:

Occupational Therapist – Mr. Sebopa Tlou

Delivered an engaging presentation on promoting a healthy pregnancy and ensuring safe motherhood. He emphasised the importance of early prenatal care, proper nutrition, and mental well-being, providing practical tips for expecting mothers to navigate pregnancy confidently and healthily.

Midwife – Ms. Ndwangu Andiswa

  • Common pregnancy-related risks such as pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, and pre-term labour
  • How to recognise early warning signs
  • The importance of antenatal care in preventing and managing complications
  • Strategies for ensuring a safe pregnancy for mother and baby

Doctor – Mhlanga Khotso

  • The role of vaccines in protecting both mother and fetus (e.g., RSV vaccine, flu vaccine)
  • How vaccines prevent severe illnesses and complications
  • Addressing common misconceptions and vaccine hesitancy
