Board of Trustees Elections 2025
We are running Trustee elections to replace two of our Member elected Trustees’ term of office that expires in June 2025.
The elected Member Trustees will serve a four-year term.
The step-by-step election process is detailed below:

Phase 1
The Nomination of Candidates phase is complete.

Phase II: The Voting Phase
Voting shall be conducted by means of a secret vote, manually and electronically on 23 April 2025.
Phase III: The Counting Phase
The counting of votes shall take place after voting, in the presence of auditors.
Eligibility to become a Trustee
Who is eligible to be elected as a trustee in the Platinum Health 2025 Member Trustees election?
Section 8.2 of the Trustee Election and Nomination Policy that pertains to Trustee Eligibility states that a person may be a trustee if he or she is a Principal Member of Platinum Health Medical Scheme in good standing.
Who is NOT eligible to stand as a candidate in the Member Trustee election?
In terms of the Rules, the following persons are NOT eligible to stand for election as Trustees if he or she is:
- Under the age of 18 years,
- Is a director, employee, officer, consultant, contractor, representative or agent of the administrator or Platinum Health,
- The Principal Officer of Platinum Health,
- The auditor of Platinum Health,
- A broker,
- A dependent of a Principal Member,
- Has been declared insane or incapable of managing his or her own affairs, and/or
- Has been convicted, whether in the Republic of South Africa or elsewhere, of theft, fraud, forgery or perjury, under the Corruption Act, of 1992.
Fitness & propriety
When is a person fit and proper to be a trustee?
- The Board of Trustees has an important responsibility of looking after the Scheme’s administrative and financial affairs and to do so in the best interest of the members.
- It is therefore important that members strive to elect trustees who are honest, appropriately skilled and experienced to discharge the duties of a Trustee as they represent all the members of the Scheme.
A person who is fit and proper to be a trustee personifies the following characteristics:
- Discipline: To diligently attend to the business of the Scheme and to be committed to adhere to behaviour that is universally recognised and accepted to be fit and proper.
- Transparent: To take decisions with honesty and integrity and avoid any personal gain or benefit in decisions about the management of the Fund.
- Independent: To act in the best interest of the members, avoid conflict of interest and take decisions objectively without being swayed or influenced by outside parties.
- Accountable: To not relinquish responsibilities and ensure that reporting covers all affairs of the Scheme accurately and honestly.
- Responsible: To exercise greater care when dealing with the affairs of the Scheme than when dealing with their own affairs. To acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to fulfil duties as trustees. To protect the confidentiality of member information.
- Fair: To treat all Scheme beneficiaries equally and impartially.
- Socially responsible: To be informed about and be responsive to social issues. Their actions are governed by high ethical standards.
