Welcome Mboniso is the Principal Officer of Platinum Health, overseeing governance, compliance, and stakeholder engagement in alignment with the Medical Schemes Act. With a focus on accessibility and responsiveness, he is dedicated to ensuring that the Scheme meets the needs of all members, regardless of their social standing, while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and care.
Welcome’s mission is to position Platinum Health as a respected and influential brand within the platinum and chrome industries, a goal he pursues with strategic foresight and a commitment to excellence. Among his career highlights, he is particularly proud of introducing salary-based contribution bands, which have made it more affordable for mine workers to provide healthcare coverage for their families.
Penshele Welcome Mboniso was appointed as Principal Officer of Platinum Health in 2007. Welcome has extensive experience in the medical industry, as is illustrated by the positions he has held:
Experience
In addition to being a qualified Professional Nurse, Welcome completed the Management Development Programme at the University of South Africa (UNISA) before he completed his Master in Business Administration (MBA) at the same university.
Welcome has further served as board member for various companies such as:
- Rand Mutual Assurance Company (Alternate and Director respectively),
- Board of Healthcare Funders (Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Directors),
- Vaal Reefs Disaster Trust Fund (Chairperson of the Board),
- Eyethumed Medical Scheme (Trustee),
- Sentinel and MEPF Claims Committee (Member).
As Principal Officer and Executive Officer of the Scheme, Welcome’ key responsibilities include the following:
- To ensure that PHMS complies at all times with the requirements of the Council for Medical Scheme.
- Keeping the Board informed concerning the affairs of the Scheme so as to enable the Board to comply with the provisions of section 57(6) of the Act.
- Ensure that the decisions and instructions of the Board are executed without unnecessary delay.
- Ensure proper and appropriate communication between the Scheme and those parties affected by the decisions and instructions of the Board.
- To act in the best interests of the members of the Scheme at all times.
- Stakeholder management and adherence to service level agreements.
